End of an Era…
Well, he did it, Tom Herman decided to hang up his tools and venture into the world of retirement. His send off was Wednesday, June 25th 2008. It was held at “The Pines” golf course club house just up the road from the shop. It was a great time. Things started off with our Vice President, Brad Spayd, giving a wonderful toast. Next, Dan Kirchner and Liz Schuder treated us all to a great song about Tom. After that, everyone enjoyed a great lunch and some delicious cake.
As a show of gratitude for his time here, the company presented Tom with a beautiful Henry Golden-Boy 22 caliber lever-action rifle. On the rifle is a very thoughtful inscription that reads “Thank you for the many years of hard work and dedication –LOR Manufacturing Company, Inc.” The inscription was done by Laser Works of Lake Isabella.
Tom’s career at LOR started in 1991 when he was helping our founder, Larry, build throttle actuators in Larry’s shop. In 1999 he decided to become a full-time employee after retiring as a high school shop and history teacher.
Over the years Tom has been milling all of our control panels and building all of our throttle actuators. It didn’t matter what kind of time crunch you placed on him to get something done, he would find a way to make it happen.
Whether it was his keen sense of humor or his ability to help solve a problem, you could always count on him to liven up any conversation.
So, again, we say “Thank You, Tom! We will miss you and Enjoy the good life ;-)”
